I have the map. I just need to follow the directions.

I was thinking today about why I’m having such a hard time losing the weight, and changing my poor habits. Through SparkPeople and the internet in general, I have the map. I have the workout plans, the strength training exercises, the cardio workouts, I have the food plans, the menus, the shopping lists, the nutritional values, the free food trackers. I literally have the directions written down for me to follow. Yet, when it comes down to it, I always take the wrong path on this map.

And I still don’t understand why. It’s like “weight loss” has been handed to me, on a platter with a note that says follow this and you’ll be thin. So why don’t I? Yes, the hard part is actually following the directions, but it’s certainly not impossible. I must have some semblance of self-control, if I was able to already lose the 30 pounds. [sigh] I’m still working hard at following the directions. I hate this feeling, of knowing what I need to do and not actually doing it. I think this may be my laziness coming through. I don’t know, but I’m figuring it out.

  1. I love that analogy! I'm going to keep it. And following that same vein, just take the first step. Once you've done that take the next one. Don't worry about the final destination, just take one step and then the next. You can do it!

  2. I have the map, too. But it is REALLY difficult to stay on course. The only thing you can do is to get up each and every morning and treat each one like it's a new day and try, as best as you can, to stick to the trail laid out to you. Try to avoid detours....

But you're not alone. It is so difficult. You've already gone 30 lbs. doing it. Imagine how great you'll feel once you stick the course and lose another 30!!!

I'll help you up if you stumble, too. Lord knows I'm not super strong either.

    *big hugs!*

  3. Wow, I could have written this post. I know exactly what to do - both what "experts" say & what has personally worked for me. But, I make excuses for not doing what I know will work. working on figuring out why here too...

  4. Judging from past experience from myself, it IS laziness. At least that's what it was for me. I KNEW how to do it and had the map and compass too but just kept taking the wrong way. I did it willingly. You may not THINK you're doing it willingly but no one is holding a gun to your head saying, "Go get another portion of food!" or something. We willingly choose to eat more food than we should. We're giving the power to the food. Take the power back and realize that it is JUST FOOD! It's 5 minutes of flavor that will be in your mouth. It's not worth it. I am struggling with the same thing so it's not just you.

  5. If it were easy to be thin, then you would be. It takes time and effort, definitely. But the good news is, you havent given up at all. :) Keep trying it will be worth it.
